Education
In light of my ignorance
Devoid of clairvoyance, without any
Privileged tutelage, and anesthetically
Unrefined
I merely submit my pedestrian observations
In this school of life
The only fixture is change
The greatest teachers are time and pain
Alas every lesson is ironic
… Here I’m just another eager salamander
Matriculated at a new season in the genus
Academy, there are no grants, no privileged
Each lesson has a price and they don’t take
Visa or Mastercard
Few are the students, for most want to
Know yet hardly any care to learn, and
When they do attend class they lack the
Tools to digest the existential drill
Some feel too much, others over think
There’s no harmony, no equilibrium, the
Wheels of mind and conscience grind and
Scold inside and out, the static’s deafening
Subdued by fears the lessons of pain are
Lost in suffering, riddled by haste and
Forever buried in waste, none scour for
Lessons distilled by time
Wisdom’s on high demand and there
Are no shortcuts, like a fine diamond
The elements must be in place before
Quality time and insufferable pressure
Do the rest
Yet unsatisfied with the rate of exchange
Many have sought to negotiate a deal
Lifetimes spent in pursuit of a bargain
Invariably swindled by magnanimous
Charlatans
Encouraged by the incorrigible prize
Anxious and accomplished, the fools
Rush off to solicit the slight of hand
A new concession stand at every corner
Fiat currency to accommodate the booming
Market, institutions built on mere hearsay
Of confidence men
The lies are bought and sold, common
Sense razed by higher education, generations
Raised in a house of cards as this vicious
Cycle perpetuates, most never recognize
The fool’s gold, others desperately abscond
A confrontation with perilous truth
Ideological frays in every continent
The new schools of counterfeit philology
Duke it out for supremacy, and the truth’s
Always the most common casualty
The prolific cons mutate to multiply
Pride breeds ignorance, and belief’s the
Function of fanatics, walls fortify the
Nightmare and barricade reality
Imposters enshrined, sociopaths idolized
The erratic thoughts of pseudo-intellectuals
Lavishly articulated by Marriam-Webster
Adopted as text and curriculum, ingenious
Madmen obsessed with their envious minds
And desperate to shed their immortal soul
Are now idolized as existential gurus
Where science and mathematics legislate reality
Lined up in billions to acquire the tools, students
Memorize, repeat, and replicate, no thinking, no
Debate, only reciprocate, there are no teachers here
Only preachers, no lessons to be learned, for there’s
No one here left to teach them just how to learn.
